About me

 

Born in Taiwan and raised in Brazil as the son of a missionary, Hsu Yun-Che has had first-hand experience with multiculturalism, but still prefers to use his name in the traditional Chinese order -- as much as possible. His working languages include Portuguese, Taiwanese, Mandarin, English, and Spanish, the knowledge of which has helped pave the way for him to learn the Biblical languages of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.

 

His interests are varied, and Mr. Hsu underwent various transitions in his life. Initially, his inquisitive mind led him to pursue the "hard" sciences, but finally he landed in the medical school, after which he chose to specialize in internal medicine.

 

Dr. Hsu would not remain a doctor for long. The vocation for full-time ministry would take him to the seminary for theological studies. And so, as he now reinterprets his own life, in his education, he went from "knowing the world" to "knowing man" to "knowing God."

 

As for seminary education, his guiding principle is that the seminary, as an institution, exists to serve the church. It is the careful study of the Bible, and the faithful preaching of the Word, that bring lasting impact to the church. All theological studies and discussions, therefore, should not be ends by themselves, but should serve a higher goal -- to edify the church, the body of Christ, and to bring glory to God.

 

Hsu Yun-Che holds a medical degree from the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, a Master of Divinity from the Seminário Teológico Servo de Cristo, and a Master of Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

 

His Th.M. is in the area of Old Testament, for which he wrote a thesis on the sacrificial system. He is also interested in the areas of Old Testament's relationship with the New Testament, textual criticism, Qumran scrolls, original languages, and linguistics.
