Pastor/Doctor Tong Yanping

  • Specializes in: Exegetical Preaching.
  • Highest Education: Doctor of Pastoral Studies, The Evangelical Seminary, USA.

He graduated with a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Pennsylvania State University in 1992. From 1992 to the spring of 1997, he conducted research in genetic engineering at the Department of Biology, Stanford University, California. In 1996, he was called by the Lord. In 1999, he obtained a Master of Divinity degree from an overseas seminary. In 2016, he obtained a Doctor of Pastoral Studies degree from The Evangelical Seminary, USA.

Since 1999, he has served as pastor at Palo Alto Christian Church Center in California with Pastor Liu Shaoling and taught Bible courses at overseas seminaries. During this time, he has frequently been invited to lead meetings in the United States, Japan, Moscow, Taiwan, Myanmar, and various parts of Asia, and to participate in the ministry of training pastors, teaching courses on the Old and New Testaments and practical theology.

In addition to his pastoral work, Pastor Tong has always been committed to the ministry of nurturing young preachers. In the summer of 2011, entrusted by Dean Zeng Linfang on his deathbed, I faithfully pastored and cared for the Palo Alto Christian Church Center in California. I also returned to my alma mater to teach, continuing Dean Zeng’s legacy of equipping the seminary’s workers and serving the churches alongside other pastors and colleagues. Dean Zeng of the Overseas Theological Seminary hoped to set a good example for students. Although evangelical professors may have different viewpoints, they are able to coexist harmoniously within a team, respecting one another and avoiding political arguments and narrow-minded conflicts. We believe that the best education is for students to learn Christian unity, leadership, and a beautiful spiritual life through the example of their mentors. May God’s will be done, and may His name be greatly glorified!
